The benefits of infusions, herbal teas and other drinks

Herbal teas and infusions are perfect for starting your little spring detox. Soothing, draining, revitalizing, they have a thousand virtues. And what a taste! Yes, infusions with fruity and floral aromas are amazing. But what are their benefits?

Their main virtue is first of all tohydrate. It's well known that water is life (so is chocolate). It is the best drink for draining and cleansing the body, and herbal tea contains 99% water. The remaining 1% is powerful: it is made up of plants that help you to feel better naturally.

  • Do you have your nerves on edge? 🤬 Treat yourself a relaxing herbal tea based on calming plants. Rooibos, lemon balm and lemongrass are your friends.
  • Are you sleeping badly? All of this sedative plants are the champions of sleep: chamomile, lavender, verbena, lime…
  • A little slack? 😩 Get back up with an energizing infusion with mate, guarana or ginger.
  • Want to get back on track? Draining herbal teas made from green tea, red vine, hibiscus and mint have it all. Well, we will still have to stop the raclette and the lemon meringue tart…

We now move on to the tasting!

What if we organized a little tea tasting?

Oh well yes, it’s a change from a wine or spirits tasting! It's also a fun way to discover and enjoy the virtues of teas and infusions with friends.

Because tea is also a very interesting wellness drink. Packed with antioxidants, green tea is draining, it protects the vessels, regulates blood sugar and burns fat; black tea is energizing, improves immunity and lowers cholesterol. Enough to boost your well-being by varying the pleasures 💪.

Let’s prepare for the tasting. We need :

  • A teapot and cups cast iron, porcelain or glass. These materials do not absorb aromas. You can prepare several teas without mixing their flavors.
  • Kettle : each tea has its ideal infusion temperature to release its aromatic molecules, or the active ingredients of plants for herbal teas.
  • A timer : respect the infusion time indicated on the packaging.
  • Some water with a neutral taste, pure or filtered if it is very mineralized.
  • And of course different teas : count 2 grams for 10 cl of water.

To enjoy all the aromas, eat hot without being hot, without sugar, milk or lemon. We start with the palest tea and move towards the darkest and oxidized.

The stages of tea tasting

  1. 🔎 Observe the dry then infused tea leaves, then the liquor (infused tea). Is the color light or intense?
  2. 👃 Smell the dry leaves, then the liquor. Keep the perceived aromas in mind, you will compare them when you taste. Are they floral, woody, spicy?
  3. 👄 Roll a sip of tea in your mouth to permeate your taste buds and define the body of the tea: is it round, soft or astringent? Try to identify the different flavors: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami (mellow effect). What do you feel ?
  4. 👅 We perceive what we taste through smell. When swallowing, exhale through your nose to feel the flavors on the back of your tongue. It is here that all the aromatic complexity of tea is revealed.

Write down everything you feel on a tasting sheet, and compare your sensations with those of your friends!
