These beans come from Kaithapara, a village in Idukki, a region of the state of Kerala in southern India. Characterized by its vast mountains and stable climate, cocoa was already established here in the 18th century, brought from Amboyna, a famous island in Indonesia. The region is still famous for its rich spices. After India’s independence, different varieties of cocoa, mainly of the Forastero type, were planted in Kerala. Harvested in the heart of the Vellcoor forest, this Kaithapara cacao is a true Indian treasure.
