How to prepare a good coffee from coffee beans?

prepare-a-good-coffee-with-coffee-beans How to prepare a good coffee from coffee beans?

To enjoy all the aromas of a good coffee, you have made a big decision: no more ground coffee, hello coffee beans ! Only then, you are not a barista and you are a little lost with your coffee beans… How to prepare your coffee? Which coffee maker to use? And the grind, does it matter? Follow the guide, we explain everything!

How to choose your coffee beans?

Coffee beans are a whole world of flavors: various aromas, blends, pure origins... The choice is yours! More expensive to buy than ground coffee, however, coffee beans quickly pay for themselves and cost about the same price as capsule coffee. It is therefore above all a matter of taste, and it depends on what you are looking for: a full-bodied coffee to wake you up, or sweet to sip all day? Bitter, balanced, fruity?
Two things will then influence your choice:

The variety of coffee tree:

Arabica gives beans with a sweet and refined aroma, while Robusta is more full-bodied, with a higher caffeine content. Perfect for getting you out of bed! On the other hand, it is more bitter and less aromatic than Arabica.

The roasting:

This is the moment when all the aromas are revealed. The grains will then take on a brown color and a more or less pronounced flavor. The darker the bean, the more the coffee will be full-bodied, bitter and smoky aftertaste.

At Quai Sud, our coffee beans come from Ethiopia. These are 100% Arabica mochas, fruity and complex, with a beautiful aromatic persistence. We have enhanced them with natural flavors of vanilla, maple, hazelnut… to vary your coffee moments.

Which coffee grind for which coffee maker?

The coffee grind is an essential element to obtain a good result in cup and an optimal tasting. If your coffee maker is equipped with a grinder, you obviously don't have to worry about it: pour in the beans, select your coffee and the machine will do the rest!
Otherwise, a coffee grinder manual will do just fine, but you will need to adjust the grind size depending on how you are brewing your coffee.

Indeed, there is no question of using the same grind for a filter coffee and a Turkish coffee! What matters is to adapt the size of the grind to the time of contact with water: the shorter it is, the finer the grind must be to quickly release its aromas. Conversely, the grind will be coarse in case of prolonged exposure (as in a French press), otherwise your coffee will be strong and very bitter.

The advantage is that with coffee beans, you can adapt your grind to all preparation methods. No need to change coffee makers, you can even prepare your own capsules for your pod coffee maker! Simply adjust your coffee grinder to your desired grind size: the tighter the adjustment nut, the finer the grind.
Here are some general guidelines for choosing the ideal grind for your coffee maker:

Our advice for a good coffee

To benefit from all the aromas of coffee, vary the pleasures: short, long, sweet, intense… but don't go against your heart. Just because the Italian coffee maker is back in fashion doesn't mean you'll start to love strong coffee as only Italians know how to do, especially if you prefer long coffee! So to enjoy your coffee beans, test up to find your ideal dosage and consider your drinking habits, the experience will only be better.

Good coffee is freshly ground coffee that is consumed immediately. Coffee oxidizes quickly on contact with air, it becomes bitter and its flavor deteriorates, which is why we advise you to grind your coffee just before brewing it in order to preserve all its aromas. We don't reheat it and we don't save it for later, otherwise it loses its subtlety.
And don't forget the old adage (except for Turkish coffee): boiled coffee, screwed up coffee!

Finally, conservation is very important to preserve the complexity and intensity of the aromas. Coffee beans can be stored for up to a year, but to enjoy all their flavors, we recommend that you consume them within 3 months of roasting. Store your coffee beans in an airtight metal box, in a cool, dry place, away from light.
